T. E. Lawrence to Clare Sydney
Smith
119, Clarence Road,
East Cowes,
Isle of Wight
29.VI .33.
This is a private printing of letters I wrote to Bruce Rogers, my famous
printer, while the Odyssey was under way. You should shelve it
with the Odyssey, and when sold together the value will go up.
The letters are worthless alone; and not worth reading even. You will
find in them if you search, evidence that I had not at Batten all the
desirable spare time for the literary work which I had contracted to do.
I wonder how that was? Ask S.W.S. and the Biscuit!
Did I tell you that Colin may retrieve the Biscuit from Plymouth
and bring her to Hythe when next his yacht goes westward? Good business.
I seem to visit London often, these days. Do you ever get so far? Is the
shadow of Singapore looming over you?
All quiet and well on my front.
T.E.S.
