T. E. Lawrence to Bruce Rogers
20/1/30
Dear B. R.
I've hopped through this,
and taken all but two of W-'s suggestions, and left one (Book VII page 5) for
your decision. He seems to me to make nonsense of a line, there. Otherwise all
his corrections are to the good. My length is to squeeze the last drop of juice
from the Homeric orange. As long as it's juice it won't feel slow; these two
books are good, I fancy.
As for the epithets, you take a load off my mind, and I have slaughtered them
freely. From now on we will put in only enough to remind ourselves of a bad
business.
Some of your markings, and my former alterations, in the other typescript, are
probably worth combining with this
Yours
T.E.S.
