T. E. Lawrence to his mother
[Plymouth]
4.vi.29
My head is singing
like a kettle, after flying to Portsmouth and back today (Schneider Cup
Committee meeting). It rained here heavily last Saturday. So I only went
over to Plymouth (by ferry) and sent you a wire.
Next week and the
week after, and the week-end after that I am engaged, on duty and other
things. So my next free week-end is June 29. You will be in Droitwich
then, I expect: and it would be better if I stayed that week in camp,
and did not go out till July.
I have not done any
Homer since the week after Easter. Very busy every day on R.A.F. work.
As yet I can't say
what will be my movements in July and August, during the Schneider
period. May go up only just before the race (Sept. 7) and spend its two
or three days on a yacht, and not visit Calshot at all: or may spend 5
weeks in Calshot. Arrangements will not be settled till July 15th. I
will let you know as soon as I know. If we go up only at the last moment
I shall not be able to go ashore at all. It would be flying-boat to
yacht, and return by air: that's what we did today.
My head is stupid,
so I won't write more.
