T. E. Lawrence to John Buchan

[late-December 1926]

[omission] This copy is one of those which I am giving to the fellows who did the Arab revolt with me. They are incomplete in the sense that many plates are missing. I want you to ask Mr. Baldwin if he would care to accept it. He did me the best turn I have ever had done to me, and I think gratefully of him as often as I have leisure to think about my contentment. It is no great return (incomplete copies have no future in the second-hand market) but I am hardly in the position to make any great return, and if he likes books, as I am told, he may prefer a broken copy to none at all. The thing is, anyhow, a rarity.

Note. Lawrence sent with this letter an 'incomplete' copy of the subscribers' edition of Seven Pillars of Wisdom
