T. E. Lawrence to Eric Kennington

Colonial Office.

12 June. [1921]

Dear Kennington,

I should have written a fortnight ago: but I was always hoping to have some news to tell you.

I saw your brother: but can't find Clark: he is not in when I pass up Knightsbridge.

About myself: I nearly came straight out again: but then they stopped me: till Winston's speech: and that's not till Tuesday: and now in the postponement plans have changed, and instead of Jordan it's Jidda, the port of Mecca on the Red Sea, for me. I'm off there, for July, the most stinking month in the year: and then Aden for August. Enough said. I'm fixed and finished and very sorry. I hope your affairs are not going too dully.

There was a fight - but it won't be big this summer: no general rising yet.

yrs.

E.L.
