T. E. Lawrence to C. M. Doughty

Colonial Office

20. 5. 21.

Dear Mr. Doughty,

I'm back again in England, for a little bit (next move probably Jidda), after spending six weeks across Jordan, most of it in Amman, where conditions are strange, and rather exciting.

I'd like to see you, but I hear you are away from Eastbourne.

Your third edition is just being made ready, so Cape tells me: it's very good to have sold out in three months, better than I ever hoped: for the really large sales will not be touched till the cheap edition appears, and for that we will probably have to wait some years.

I got a note from you when I got back, enclosing a cutting from the Times Correspondent at Maan! I’m afraid he got no nearer than Jerusalem in the flesh, and not so near as that in his facts. My regards to Mrs. Doughty.

Yours sincerely

T E Lawrence
