T. E. Lawrence to Will Lawrence

Dear Will
I am going out to
Egypt probably, at the end of this week, on special service. The Turks
may do something in that direction, so if I were you I'd stay either
there or in India.... In Belgium there is less scope for untrained
people.
If Egypt falls, there will be trouble all through the
East. I notice that you expected trouble in Delhi, if Turkey came in...
but I think there won't be any unless some great man starts out on the
warpath... and such people as the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Agha Khan
(if he is really anybody great) know about as much of Turkish misrule as
we do. The old Col. Nizim el Mulk, when I saw him was most splendidly
anti-Turk.
Keep your eye on Afghanistan... there may be trouble
there, though the Amir is out with a good deal of his army.
The Khedive is coming
out against us... but declines with thanks.
Nothing doing, I fancy either in the Caucasus or in Sinai
till spring... hope not, since I want time to look round and polish up
my Bedouin dialects.
I'll give you an
address in Egypt when I get out there (long sea!)... Don't do anything
in a hurry.
